By day, he's known as Mr. Tulin in the hallowed halls of the renowned Trinity School on the Upper West Side, where he teaches performing arts and directs musicals. But by night, he's Al Tulane, "The Man of a Million Names," who wows audiences with his performances in places such as Manhattan's Le Cirque, Daniel and The Four Seasons, as well as Palm Beach and Bel-Air all the way to Athens and Cap d'Antibes. Both sides of this versatile performer can be seen onstage in his upcoming 'Act of a Lifetime – Cheaper Than Therapy' at Manhattan's premier cabaret club. Accompanied by music director Christopher Howatt, Al will regale audiences with stories and anecdotes from his career as an actor and performer, drawing on standards from the stage and screen to tell his story. Alan Tulin and his alter ego Al Tulane: The Man of a Million Names were bitten by the Broadway Bug in the early 60s and have been bugging Broadway ever since! Fueled by a desire to perform, Al sang and danced his way through Emerson College, Summer Stock, Regional Theatre and Atlantic City until he landed in the window of the Landmark stationary store on the corner of 44th and Madison as emcee host of a mid-day variety show! In 1980 Al took a detour to Cairo where he headlined for six months at the Holiday Inn Pyramids Hotel in Giza while perfecting his camel riding skills. Numerous television appearances on the PBS series "In the Life" and off Broadway runs in the Drama Desk Award-winning musical Howard Crabtree's Whoop-Dee-Doo and Tony 'n Tina's Wedding followed. For more than twenty years Al has also been directing musicals as a member of the Performing Arts Department at Manhattan's Trinity School. Christopher Howatt is known both as a musical director and vocalist; for two seasons, he was a member of the Associate Chorus of the Metropolitan Opera. He currently serves as chorister at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Manhattan; previous positions included the historic Trinity Church Wall Street and the famed Riverside Church. He was music director and performer with the vocal trio Boulevard East, with whom he has appeared in public and private events throughout the Eastern seaboard. In addition, his voice can be heard on recordings as diverse as Boulevard East's release Timeless, Jessye Norman's Christmas CD In the Spirit, to singing backup for The Pet Shop Boys on their cover of the Village People song, "Go West." He has served as coach and accompanist for such talents as David Hyde Pierce, Howard McGillin, Tyne Daly, Rita Moreno, Brad Oscar and Cady Huffman (from The Producers) and others for George Street Playhouse, as well as serving as musical supervisor for their productions of Sylvia, Lend Me a Tenor and Inspecting Carol and musical director for the world premiere production of Come Back, Come Back, Wherever You Are, written and directed by the late theatrical legend Arthur Laurents. He is putting the finishing touches on his first solo recorded effort, Songs My Mother Taught Me. There is a $10 cover plus a 2-drink minimum. $5 cover for members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE.

HOTLINE MEMBER CABARET EVENT TONIGHT IN NYC: TRACY STARK & MARCUS SIMEONE - "ON SACRED GROUND: THE SONGS OF JANIS IAN"

HOTLINE MEMBER CABARET EVENT TONIGHT IN NYC: TRACY STARK & MARCUS SIMEONE - "ON SACRED GROUND: THE SONGS OF JANIS IAN"

Two of today's most honored and prolific performers, Tracy Stark & Marcus Simeone, present a first in cabaret: 'On Sacred Ground: The Songs of Janis Ian' at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Saturday, December 5th at 7:00 pm. Janis Ian learned the truth at seventeen. With influences from folk pioneers like Joan Baez, Odetta and a bevy of activists and artists, she began writing songs at a very young age. When she released "Society's Child" in 1967, she received hate mail and death threats in addition to a radio station (in Atlanta) being burned down due to the controversial nature of the song's lyrics about an interracial romance. Many stations refused to add the song to their play lists. The song won her the first of two Grammy awards. After two previous attempts, the song became a runaway hit when Leonard Bernstein featured it in a CBS television special. It was only the beginning. At 16, she met Bill Cosby while touring with a chaperone (due to her age.) The shy teen often slept with her head on the chaperone's lap. Mr. Cosby petitioned television stations not to allow her on the air due to her bad influence as a result of her "lesbianism." A few years later, she would be the very very first musical artist to appear on the debut of Saturday Night Live. Hers has been a remarkable, outspoken, non-stop career that remains active to this day. Revered artists like Barbara Cook, Dame Shirley Bassey, Roberta Flack, Bette Midler, Nina Simone • and Cher - have all recorded Janis Ian's songs to great acclaim. She remains one of today's most respected female songwriters in a crowded field. For the first time in cabaret, On Sacred Ground - starring Marcus Simeone and Tracy Stark, pays overdue tribute to the lady who broke glass ceilings and made a lasting impact on generations. Her best selling autobiography (At Seventeen) won a Grammy (Best Spoken Word.) This homage to Janis Ian will feature familiar and rarely heard songs, including "Between The Lines," "Matthew," "Getting Over You," "This Train Still Runs," "Silly Habits," "When Angels Cry," "Jesse," "She Must Be Beautiful," "At Seventeen," "Stars" - and "Society's Child." Marcus Simeone is one of today's brightest lights in cabaret. Renowned for his multi-octave, expressive tenor and his unique ability to sing in many genres, he has received countless accolades. He recently made his Carnegie Recital Hall debut. Also a respected songwriter and recording artist, he will soon be releasing his sixth album on Miranda Music. Tracy Stark has won numerous awards for her distinguished work as a pianist, arranger and songwriter. She has accompanied a plethora of artists, including Lesley Gore, Phoebe Snow, Karen Black, Tovah Feldshuh and Barb Jungr. Her upcoming CD, on Miranda Music, is a collection of original songs titled "Shades of Beautiful." Lennie Watts directs, with Peter Calo on Guitar, Skip Ward on Bass and Mark Leitz on Percussion. There is a $22.50 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

JEUDI - WINTER WAS WARM FROM JEUDI BREALEY

'Jeudi - Winter Was Warm' is a new vintage holiday soundtrack of rare, swingin' & sentimental American gems from the 30's 40's & 50's, sung in sweet nostalgic tones reminiscent of the great chanteuses of the past. The songs evoke the many moods of winter from merriment to melancholy. As a vintage-loving chanteuse with a penchant for research, Jeudi delights in mining the forgotten musical gems. Most of these tunes are lost treasures from the 1930's to the 1950's. While half are Christmas songs, they're all about winter. This time of year, while openly expressing joys and good wishes, we may also privately reflect on disappointments and regrets. The greatest songwriters capture the range of human emotions and present them to us in a gorgeous melody, or a tender lyric. These songs match the moods of the season, from merriment to melancholy. Jeudi is pleased to share these masterfully written, musical jewels with you, which have been dressed in beautiful new arrangements, embracing a modern retro vibe. they should bring a fresh touch, warm your heart and maybe even put a little spring in your step, this winter season. Available now at CD Baby
