SAN FRANCISCO: YVONNE FLORES "UNDER THE MISTLETOE" AT FEINSTEIN'S

Singer/songwriter, Yvonne Flores, is debuting her jazz album produced by famed jazz guitarist Ray Obiedo, at FEINSTEIN'S AT THE NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 866-663-1063) on Friday, December 19th at 8:00 pm. Yvonne will present 'Under the Mistletoe', an intimate, heart-warming holiday show featuring Yvonne's fresh remakes of some of the best holiday classics including "Santa Baby," "This Christmas," "Baby, It's Cold Outside," "Christmas Waltz" and many more. Join Yvonne for a fun, playful and flirty evening with a special mystery guest ... and perhaps a visit from Santa Claus! Other impressive musicians lending their talent include Pete Escovedo, Peter Michael Escovedo - and Dave K. Mathews, Jeff Cressman, Bill Ortiz of Santana - also featured is flutist Elena Pinderhughes. Six of the album's nine tracks were written by Yvonne where she expressed through her lyrics - a "state of happiness" - having overcome trying life experiences - and prevailing - thus the album's title "Sheer Bliss." Born in San Francisco, Yvonne is an exotic blend of Filipino, Irish and Spanish decent. She grew up in a household filled with music. There was intensive training in voice, dance, piano, guitar and it was apparent from an early age that her natural gift of phrasing, timing would evolve into an ease with scat singing. By the age of 13 she was performing professionally and for three years served as a featured singer on a television variety show. She caught the attention of many large companies who hired her for corporate events. Inspired by musical legends Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Frank Sinatra, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Michael Buble and Andrea Bocelli, Yvonne reworks the classics similarly in a captivating, refreshing modern style influenced by Latin rhythms, Brazilian jazz, blues, and swing. Call for cover/minimum information.

WASHINGTON, DC: A FREDDY COLE CHRISTMAS AT BLUES ALLEY

Freddy Cole brings his show 'A Freddy Cole Christmas' to BLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Thursday through Sunday, December 18th through 21st with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Freddy Cole doesn't apologize for sounding like his brother, Nat "King" Cole. There are certain unmistakable similarities. He plays piano and sings and performs live with guitar and upright bass, just like Nat. Yet his voice is raspier, smokier, jazzier even. But he has emerged from the awesome shadow cast by his elder brother. In truth, his phrasing is far closer to that of Frank Sinatra or Billie Holiday than that of his brother and his timing swings a little more. Cole's career continues to ascend as he has moved into the front ranks of America's homegrown art form with a style and musical sophistication all his own. There is a $25 cover.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA: SHARON MCNIGHT'S "TWISTED XMAS" RETURNS

Tony-nominee Sharon McNight returns just in time with her annual "Twisted Xmas" Holiday Show and this year she's gonna "sleigh" you. It's an irreverent look at the traditions of the season. She will perform at FEINSTEIN'S AT THE NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 866-663-1063) on Thursday, December 18th & Saturday, December 27th at 8:00 pm. "Twisted Xmas" is a different kind of holiday show. If you're looking for a warm and cozy show filled with the traditional carols, look elsewhere. This is definitely not Donny & Marie's Christmas Program. Over the past decades, during the holidays, while Rosemary Clooney touted a "White Christmas" and Bruce Vilanch roasted his chestnuts over an open fire, McNight offered an alternative choice from the expected songs. She has stockpiled myriad and outrageous, wacky musical commentaries on the 12 days of everything from Santa, elves, gift wrapping, toys, cold, weather, snow and let's not forget "the family." Call for cover/minimum information.
