When I started as a cabaret artist, I looked up to Miss Eartha Kitt as my cabaret muse.  I related to her material, unique style, persona and most importantly, her tenacity and her strong sense of self as she struggled with prejudice and bias. This is my humble way of saying "thank you" for her cabaret guidance.

Bob Bruneau, musical director and Bruce Phares, bass.

MARCH IS CABARET MONTH UPDATE

In just a few days it all begin: MARCH IS CABARET MONTH!
The concept of MARCH IS CABARET MONTH was originally developed by cabaret venue owners in NYC to increase the awareness - and attendance - of cabaret events during the slow months of winter. The month of March was chosen because, back in those days, because each year March would kick off with the annual BACK STAGE BISTRO AWARDS GALA and end with the annual MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets) AWARDS GAla. However, as MAC began to reschedule its awards show later into April and then into May, and the BACK STAGE BISTRO awards show became a private event for winners and their friends only (the publication no longer operates the BISTRO AWARDS) the concept of MARCH IS CABARET MONTH faded away.
In January of 2008, CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE took upon itself the task of resurrecting MARCH IS CABARET MONTH with the support of performers, venues and cabaret organizations, in order to revitalize the interest in the art and artists of cabaret as winter wound down. Special MARCH IS CABARET MONTH events are held around the world each year, kicked off by a special MARCH IS CABARET MONTH GALA presented in NYC.
PNW (Pacific Northwest Cabaret Association) has scheduled several events for March as has CCP (Chicago Cabaret Professionals). Because of venue scheduling problems, BACA (Boston Association of Cabaret Artists) has moved their annual festival of cabaret into April. I'm still waiting to hear from MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets)DCCN (DC Cabaret Network) andCABARET WEST if they plan any special events to celebrate MARCH IS CABARET MONTH.
We have reactivated our MARCH IS CABARET MONTH website - http://www.marchiscabaret.com/and the pages are filling up. If you have an event during the month of March, we'll include it in the proper geographical page on this special website, in addition to our regular listings pages on our CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website (providing you send a press release). Double the publicity and another place for Google and other search engines to find out about your show! And all banners and side-bar ads running on our CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website will also run on this extra website. Follow MARCH IS CABARET MONTH on Twitter athttp://twitter.com/marchiscabaret to receive special tweets whenever we add new items to the website.
